Iterative 3D bayesian restoration method of SPECT volumes (OSEM-R) - Application in striatal imaging
نویسنده
چکیده
SPECT imaging suffers from low spatial resolution and statistical noise. Consequently, the contrast of small structures is reduced, visual detection of defects is limited and exact quantification is difficult. To improve the contrast, it is possible to incorporate a blurring model into the iterative reconstruction process such as OSEM3D. This approach is well known to be effective, but time consuming. We develop a faster method to account for the spatial resolution in SPECT imaging. The purpose of this study is to compare the ability of both methods to achieve a speedy and efficient resolution recovery.

Iterative three-dimensional expectation maximization restoration of single photon emission computed tomography images: application in striatal imaging.
Single photon emission computed tomography imaging suffers from poor spatial resolution and high statistical noise. Consequently, the contrast of small structures is reduced, the visual detection of defects is limited and precise quantification is difficult. To improve the contrast, it is possible to include the spatially variant point spread function of the detection system into the iterative ...
متن کاملEvaluation of iterative reconstruction method and attenuation correction on brain dopamine transporter SPECT using anthropomorphic striatal phantom
Objective(s): The aim of this study was to determine the optimal reconstruction parameters for iterative reconstruction in different devices and collimators for dopamine transporter (DaT) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The results were compared between filtered back projection (FBP) and different attenuation correction (AC) methods. Methods: An anthropomorphic striatal phant...
متن کاملIs iterative reconstruction an alternative to filtered backprojection in routine processing of dopamine transporter SPECT studies?
UNLABELLED In general, striatal dopamine transporter (DAT) binding is assessed by use of data reconstructed by filtered backprojection (FBP). The aim of this study was to investigate whether the use of an iterative reconstruction algorithm (ordered-subset expectation maximization [OSEM]) may provide results comparable to or even better than those obtained by standard FBP. METHODS In 50 patien...
متن کامل3D-OSEM and FP-CIT SPECT quantification: benefit for studies with a high radius of rotation?
OBJECTIVES Dopamine transporter imaging with single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a valuable tool for both clinical routine and research studies. Recently, it was found that the image quality could be improved by introduction of the three-dimensional ordered subset expectation maximization (3D-OSEM) reconstruction algorithm, which provides resolution recovery. The aim of this s...
متن کاملAssessment of simulated patient motion and its effect on myocardial perfusion SPECT using two reconstruction methods (Filtered Backprojection;FBP and Iterative method) [Persian]
Introduction: Motion of the patient during myocardial perfusion SPECT could potentially results in false perfusion defects. The effect of different reconstruction methods on these artifacts is not studied. Clarification of the relation between the extent, severity and duration of motion with the resultant artifacts may be helpful in designing special soft wares for motion correction. This...
